Juan-les-Pins Tourist Information
The French Riviera summer season was born here:
The Brits created the winter season in Cannes in the 19th century and the Americans the summer season in Juan in the 20th century.
It was once the summer haunt of the rich and famous including Rudolf Valentino, who lived at Chateau de Golfe Juan overlooking the port. The Fitzgeralds in the 1920s welcomed Picasso, Josephine Baker, King Umberto of Italy and Edith Piaf to their home the Belles Rives, now a five star hotel. Other celebrities, including Cocteau, Estee Lauder and Charlie Chaplin, stayed at Le Provencal hotel while Le Juana was favoured by Ella Fitzgerald. The town's casino is famous for throwing out Coco Chanel for daring to wear "pants".
