The beautiful French countryside surrounding Cannes is a golfing paradise. Half a dozen excellent courses are within a half hour drive, with a further six less than an hour away. They are well maintained and offer a variety of challenges for all golfers. Booking in advance is advised, but simple, as all professional staff are English.

Terre Blanche in Tourrettes near Fayence has two Dave Thomas designed 18-hole championship courses, Le Riou and Le Chateau, both 72 par. The resort has one of the most comprehensive training centres in Europe, with a David Leadbetter academy and Taylor Made custom fit centre. Green fees, 18 holes including buggy.

Saint-Endreol Golf Club is a bit further inland and an hour's drive but stunning and difficult. It is most memorable for its signature hole, the downhill par 3 13th guarded by water plus a spa. Green fees. Tel: 04 94 51 89 89.
Grasse-Claux-Arnic is a difficult course in the mountains and the favourite of many.
Taulane-Claux-Amic is also in the mountains and is closed in winter because it is on the snow line. A challenging course, par 72, designed by Gary Power. Complete with practice ground and five hole practice course. Green fees. It is stunning and worth a night or two in their hotel, excellent restaurant and accommodation.

St Maxime Golf is just above the town and the views are unbelievable but in the height of summer the roads are very busy. Green fees.
Barbaroux Golf Club near Brignoles, designed by Peter Dye, is described as having a potpourri of styles which range from links like holes with blind shots to US styled target golf holes protected by water. Boasts Europe's biggest green, measuring 69 metres front to back. Green fees. High up with lovely views.
