No probs, you can still indulge your love of films. Every evening during the film festival on the Plage Mace there is a free open air cinema showing classic films - just turn up and grab a deckchair
Also free is Cannes Cinephiles showing films at four cinemas in Cannes.
Free tickets can also be had for Critics' Week
Tickets for films shown as part of the Directors' Fortnight are available from the HQ outside the Malmaison or through Cannes Cinephiles and cost eight euros each or 40 euros for six showings. Tickets are available on-line at www.ticketonline.festival-cannes.com

CANNES FILM FESTIVAL - PRESIDENT OF THE JURY 2022
President of the Jury of the 75th Festival of Cannes is French actor and filmmaker Vincent Lindon.
He won Best Actor at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival for his role in the film The Measure of the Man. And went on to win Best Actor at the 41st César Awards and the IFFI Best Actor Award at the 46th International Film Festival of India |

At the Opening Ceremony Forest Whitaker will be presented with an Honorary Palme d'Or.
"It is a tradition for the Festival to honour those who made its history," says Pierre Lescure, festival president. Forest first appeared in Cannes in Bird with Clint Eastwood. He returned six times in the Official Selection and four times in the Competition. Films such as The Crying Game, Smoke, Panic Room, Phone Booth, The Last King of Scotland (Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Actor), Street Kings, Southpaw, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Black Panther, The Butler, and Respect show his multiple facets and eclectic choices. Zulu by Jérôme Salle closed the 2013 Festival. In addition to his work as an actor, he has directed 4 feature films and produced films such as Ryan Coogler’s Fruitvale Station presented in Un Certain Regard.

Australian director, screenwriter and producer Baz Luhrmann presents the world premiere of his latest feature film Elvis.

Tom Cruise is receiving the honour for his lifetime achievement in the film industry. One of the world's highest-paid actors, he has won three Golden Globe Awards, in addition to nominations for a British Academy Film Award and three Academy Awards. His films have grossed over $4 billion in North America and over $10.1 billion worldwide.
Cruise began acting in the early 1980s and made his breakthrough in the action drama film Top Gun (1986). Critical acclaim came with his roles in The Colour of Money (1986), Rain Man (1988), and Born on the Fourth of July (1989). For his portrayal of Ron Kovic in the latter, he won a Golden Globe Award and received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actor. Cruise's performance as a motivational speaker in the drama film Magnolia (1999) earned him another Golden Globe Award and a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. It tells the story of Bakary Diallo, a father, who enlists in the French army in 1917 to join Thierno, his 17-year-old son, who was drafted by force.

Jean Eustache’s The Mother and the Whore (left) is the grand opening to Cannes Classics. Other highlights include two episodes of Ethan Hawke’s event series on Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman, a tribute to Gérard Philipe (born in Cannes), Patrick Dewaere who died 40 years ago, one last conversation with Jean-Claude Carrière, the Cinemateca Brasileira and Glauber Rocha, Pilipino director Mike De Leon, Arrabal the poet, a Czech new wave masterpiece, a close-up on Romy Schneider, one last goodbye to Fernando Solanas, a salute to Souleyman Cissé from his daughter.
India is the Country of Honour, The Film Foundation and the World Cinema Project, an homage to Indian Cinema, the 70th anniversary of Singin’ In The Rain, Orson Welles and Kafka, a continuation of Vittorio movie restorations, De Sicca and Duvivier’s timeless classics, Robbie Robertson’s The Band for their last show. And finally double Olympic feature with the official film of the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972 directed by 8 directors from the whole world and the one presented as world premiere of the Olympic Games in Tokyo directed by Naomi Kawase.

On the red carpet...

Sixty meters of red carpet are used to cover the famous 24 steps at the Palais des Festivals. In the past the carpet was changed three times a day during the festival with a total of 2km used. In 2021 this was cut by 50% and only one km was used to help save the planet.
