Mougins Village
“Eat your art out” best sums up this marvellous village which is both a gastronomic and art lovers’ delight. Whether you visit during the day or evening the shops, artists’ studios and galleries are open. Do explore this snail shaped village which dates back to Roman times and where Picasso spent the last years of his life, 1961-73. The village today has 30 art galleries and workshops
Mougins is the nearest "Perched village" to Cannes
By day it can be reached from Cannes on the 600 or 30 bus to the town and then walk (quite a hike) or grab a bus up to the old village. If you have a car it is a romantic place for dinner and there is lots of parking available. Or take a taxi.

The fabulous Museum of Classical Art (MACM) closed August 2023 after 12 years. It showcased a visionary juxtaposition of ancient artefacts from Egypt, Greece & Rome with art from neoclassical, modern & contemporary periods.
A collection of objects from it, including the world’s largest privately-owned collection of ancient arms and armour, is estimated to bring £22m at Christie’s. First auction December 2023. Christian Levett says he decided to sell much of the works previously on display at the museum partly out of a desire to see them continue to be available for the public.
Mr Levett, a former commodities trader, decided to rebrand MACM as the Femmes Artistes du Musée de Mougins (FAMM) and to change the existing collection of largely classical art to work by women artists, which he has been acquiring over the last few years.
The venue will reopen in June 2024 as FAMM, featuring works by female artists.
Christmas 2023
The lights are switched on in the old village at 6pm 1 December and the Maison de Noel will be in the old village till 7 January. The wonderful creche in the Lavoir is also open (free). There will be hot chocolate for the children and vin chaud for the adults. There will be ice skating and a visit by father Christmas.
The Christmas market takes place 8-10 December and is open from 10am till 6pm. The '13 desserts and gospel' takes place on 22 December from 3.30pm.

Femmes Artistes du Musée de Mougins (FAMM)
The venue will open in June 2024 featuring works by female artists - "the first museum in Europe dedicated to women artists".
Visitors can expect to see works by Louise Bourgeois, Helen Frankenthaler, Grace Hartigan, Elaine de Kooning, Lee Krasner, Joan Mitchell, Leonor Fini, Barbara Hepworth, Alma Thomas, Joan Semmel, Howardena Pindell, Cecily Brown, Marlene Dumas, Tracey Emin, Sarah Lucas, and Carrie Mae Weems, among others.

The village also has a museum of photography, the 8th art, with a collection of pictures from top photographers. And its famous wash house hosts many art exhibitions.
Mougins is much more than just the village: it boasts two golf courses, woodland areas for walks and picnics and more than 40 restaurants, many at the foot of the old village on the way to Valbonne. Latest resto in this area of Mougins is Laflora, 351 ave St-Basile. Menu lunch and dinner is 39 euros for 3 courses.

Every Sunday mass is celebrated at 10am at this ancient church - 12th century.
Picasso lived nearby and Winston Churchill painted the chapel. Photos of Picasso are to be found in the adjacent hermitage. 1 Rue Eglise, Mougins - it is on a hill about 1km from the perched village. Museum open Monday to Saturday 10am-12pm, 2pm-6pm A successful music festival is held here in summer - mainly classical with some jazz.
