No probs, you can still indulge your love of films. Every evening during the film festival on the Plage Mace there is a free open air cinema showing classic films - just turn up and grab a deckchair
Also free is Cannes Cinephiles showing films at four cinemas in Cannes.
Free tickets can also be had for Critics' Week
Tickets for films shown as part of the Directors' Fortnight are available from the HQ outside the Malmaison or through Cannes Cinephiles and cost eight euros each or 40 euros for six showings. Tickets are available on-line at www.ticketonline.festival-cannes.com

President of the Jury of the 77th Festival of Cannes is 40-year-old American director Greta Gerwig.
American director, screenwriter, and actress Greta Gerwig is the first American female director to be Jury President and only the second woman American, following Olivia de Haviland in 1965. She is the youngest person to take on the role since Sophia Loren, aged 31 in 1966. She is also only the second female director since Jane Campion in 2014. Greta's latest film Barbie smashed every record. |
MISTRESS OF CEREMONIES
Camille Cottin
A French and Anglo Saxon theatre, TV and Hollywood actress.
She first appreared at Cannes in 2019 in Chambre 212 by Christophe Honore screened in Un Certain Regard. Two years later, she returned alongside Matt Damon in Stillwater by American director Thomas McCarthy, presented in Competition.

In sound, he contributed to the evolution of stereo through his company THX. He also founded the famous animation studio Pixar. |

World Premier: Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
by George Miller
Nine years after Mad Max: Fury Road, Australian director, screenwriter and producer George Miller is back on the Croisette. An Out of Competition gala on 15 May, the highly anticipated Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will be unveiled in the presence of the cast, Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke in the lead.
It looks back on the origins of Furiosa, the new heroine of the saga who appeared in Mad Max: Fury Road, which won several Oscars. Actress Anya Taylor-Joy plays young Furiosa who tries to return home, despite numerous hostile armed gangs.
George Miller was twice a member of the Cannes Festival Jury before being its President in 2016 for the 69th edition. In 2022, he presented Three Thousand Years to Wait for You in Out of Competition with Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba.
Honorary Palme d'Or: Studio Ghibli
For the first time, the Honorary Palme d'Or is awarded to a collective, the renowned animated filmmakers, Studio Ghibli.
Founded by Hayao Miyazaki,Toshio Suzuki and Isao Takahata, the Japanese studio has been creating innovative animated cinema for four decades including more than twenty feature films such as Porco Rosso, Pompoko, Princess Mononoké, My Neighbours the Yamadas, The Wind Rises and The Tale of Princess Kaguya.
Spirited Away won the Golden Bear and an Oscar for best animated film and, more recently, for The Boy and the Heron

THE IMMERSIVE EXPLAINED
This new competition is organized with the support of the National Centre for Cinema and Animated Images (CNC). It will highlight immersive, collective, interactive narrative works which use virtual and augmented reality technologies to develop new ways of transporting us, of making us exist in another body, another world, another era.
For this first edition, eight immersive works will be selected by a committee of industry professionals and members of the Festival team gathered around the General Delegate of the Cannes Festival. A selection of non-competitive works, exposing the links between immersive experience and cinema will complete the system.
These works will finally compete for the Best Immersive Work Prize which will be awarded by an international jury composed of well-known personalities from cinema and immersive art on the occasion of a specific closing ceremony celebrating the creativity and genius of the artists immersive.
In parallel with the competition, the Film Market will continue to explore the economic and technical dimension of this sector via conferences and expert panels, demonstrations and professional networking events.
In 2017, Alejandro González Iñárritu showed at the Cannes Film Festival his work in Virtual Reality entitled Carne y Arena (Virtually Present, Physically Invisible ) which will go down in history as the first immersive work ever presented in the official selection at a major festival. He received a special Oscar for this work. Iñárritu is often invited to Cannes and he was President of the jury in 2019.

Hungarian director and screenwriter Ildikó Enyedi, president, who is joined by Iranian American screenwriter Ana Lily Amirpour, Canadian actress Charlotte Le Bon, French actress Karidja Touré and Israeli director Shlomi Elkabetz.
The Jury will be awarding the Short Film Palme d'Or to one of the films in Competition:

CAMERA D'OR 2024...
for the best first film
The Caméra d’Or, created in 1978, is awarded to the director of the best first film presented in the Official Selection - In Competition, Out of Competition and Un Certain Regard, as well as the Critics' Week and the Directors’ Fortnight.
In an unprecedented move, this year's jury will be presided over by a duo: the French actress Emmanuelle Béart and director and songwriter Baloji, who works out of Belgium and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The French Film Guild's Golden Coach is awarded each year to one director
The Carrosse d'Or is a bronze statuette inspired by the figures of the Comedia dell'Arte and Jean Renoir's film of the same name – it was created by painter-sculptor Lili Legouvello.

On the red carpet...
Sixty meters of red carpet are used to cover the famous 24 steps at the Palais des Festivals. In the past the carpet was changed three times a day during the festival with a total of 2km used. In 2021 this was cut by 50% and only one km was used to help save the planet.

Cannes Film MuralsTake a tour round Cannes to see all the film murals - there are 19 in total. This one is at the bus station and celebrated 100 years of cinema: can you spot Mickey Mouse, R2-D2 and Batman? You can pick up a leaflet at the tourist office showing all the sites.
